Doors In the Face Does Not Lead to Discouragement. 11 May 2014

Hello! Happy Mother's day and end of the school year! Crazy. This time last year I was taking a long-needed breath after the marathon that college can be sometimes (said the freshman). Although unfortunately it has been a relatively slower week for work, we have enjoyed every minute of it and learned some very important things with regards to preparation, teaching skills, and more. As yesterday we walked soaked in the rain and got some doors slammed shut in front of us, we felt a great love for this people, and for our Savior. Those experiences are always precious- missionary work is what the Lord needs it to be, but those are the kinds of things you imagine before you come out.

I am very much looking forward to the mission focus for this month, discipleship. My favorite scripture is Moroni's invitation to all to come unto Christ, and as we personally seek to grow closer to Him, we feel that great love, that assurance that there is so much more than us, and we grow in our ability to share that with others. Elder James Talmage, whose "Jesus the Christ" I was reading this morning, talked about faith so resolute as to render us always willing to obey with a humble heart regardless of whatever opposition or obstacle arises, the kind of faith that we want to develop.

The district is getting along well, working hard, and seeing results. I want to minister more, we all do, to do all we can to build up others. I want to show love more, to minister in love, to follow the Savior's example in this regard better. Although I strive, there is always so much more to do. We all will try this month and beyond to turn out more in love and turn in less. We want to have a celestial house, celestial district, and to continue to work hard and gratefully serve as the Lord provides. To become, I suppose, the Lord's disciples. We will all try to learn from and emulate the attributes of the apostles of Jesus Christ, and He Himself, who said to all, "come and see."
Zack has been diligently fulfilling all of his responsibilities, and will be receiving the Aaronic Priesthood next week. He is incredibly powerful spiritually, and we are excited to continue meeting with him.
Sister Sin- that looks bad in English- pronounced "sheen-" texted this week, as she was in Seoul after having moved to Daejeon a bit back. We went with another branch member for lunch, and that was good to catch up. Their family is doing well. Her daughter, Yejin, who enters the MTC next month, we also ran into randomly last month on the way to district meeting, she being in Seoul for one day, and that was fun as well. Crazy to run into people in a city so massive.
We had a branch activity on Saturday that was a big success, with fun games, lessons, and food. Several investigators really enjoyed it, and it was a great experience. Brother Gichan showed up after church suddenly, and he agreed to be baptized in early July, due to crazy school stuff until then. We will try to help him see that as we put God first, He will succor and support us.
We are happy and loving life. All my prayers and my love, and all the best. Congratulations to Caleb and Daniel on some pretty incredible accomplishments academically, to dad on tenure(!), and to mom on writing, teaching, and being 최고. Love!

Hello! ^^
One of our investigators is calling us any minute to go eat lunch, so I will attempt to get in as much as I can, but we may cruise pretty quickly.
I hope that all goes well! It's been a fun and a fruitful week as we have worked as hard as we could- whenever we do everything we can with an eye single, God always provides.

missionaries in this picture, with Sister Po Seol at her baptism
Zack returned earlier than expected from Taiwan and was able to be confirmed yesterday during sacrament meeting, which is always a sweet experience. He arrived in a sharp suit and tie, and is just incredible. We're excited for him to continue to attend, and for the Chinese presence in Imun to continue to grow. After church, Sister Po Seol (Bao Xue), also from China, was baptized. She is absolutely incredible, has great faith, and understands the fundamentals of the Gospel very well. She more than other investigators I've seen has a great relationship with the branch, and will be a great support. Miracles.
Another Chinese national that we taught with the sisters committed to baptism this week as well, for the first of June, for which we are excited. Certainly not all Chinese citizens are so prepared, we taught one brother who brought some friends this week that were not as polite and left sister Deng and I feeling rather frustrated (>.<), but we are always trying to do our best to share this Gospel and invite as many people as possible to come unto Christ. Teaching Mina, from Thailand, was a great experience, she having only started believing in God about six months ago and having lots and lots of great questions. We were planning on teaching something else, but the Plan of Salvation was definitely right for her and touched her. She committed to receiving the baptismal ordinance as well.
Due to the uncertainty of time, I will follow with several points from the past week.
-Brother Nam called from China and asked when we are joining him in North Korea.
-As we were on our way to meet with Sunghwan, we accidentally took a wrong path and ended up on the top of a small mountain, whereon we met a wise old sage and her granddaughter. She wants us to teach English to her daughter, and to teach us traditional Korean instruments for free. Okay.

-Sunghwan, who we did find eventually, wants more guy friends because he says that in his major of aviation tourism all of his friends are girls. We ate with him, and he wants to come with us to a young adult activity this Saturday with the church. Afterwards we went to a side dish store and bought lotus root, or rhizome to those in the business.

-One investigator got up ten minutes into a lesson when Elder Osborne came in to get something, excused himself for a moment, and went outside. Ten minutes later we got a text saying that we could meet "next time."
-We met with Gu Paengwon several times, including one meal at a meat buffet that we were not expecting.
-We met with Magang, who is amazing. He is Chinese, but goes to church and is very prepared to learn more. There are people who need this Gospel, and I want to make sure that nothng I do interferes with them having that opportunity.

-Studies are fruitful, the branch is supportive, and we are happy, healthy, and tired. There's no other way to be.
-I will finish with the words of a man I talked to on the street on Saturday. He was very kind and open as I introduced myself, and he responded with "술 먹었지만 하나님 믿습니다." (I did have a bit to drink, yes, but I believe in God!...)
All my love from Seoul,
